![]() Decatur Decatur was east of Enon. (Enon is in Moniteau Co.). (--Sectional Map of Mo., 1894, Rand, McNally.) Decatur, Missouri, was named in honor of naval Captain Stephen Decatur (1799-1820), who achieved his greatest distinction, in 1815, by stopping the raids of the Barbary pirates on United States merchant men in the Mediterranean in the Tripolitan War. Now an extinct or ghost town, a post office called Decatur was established in 1875, and remained in operation until 1906.
